Fide module Migration and Interculturality (MI)

The focus of the “Migration and Interculturality” module is on dealing with your own cultural influences, values and attitudes when encountering migrants, especially in the context of foreign and second language teaching, as well as getting to know the regional context in relation to the legal and social situation of migrants in Switzerland.

Target

Accompany adult migrants in the learning process in an appreciative manner, taking into account their background and socio-cultural identity, and strengthening their ability to act in everyday Swiss life through the development of intercultural skills.

Content

Migration

  • Reasons for migration and exemplary migration biographies
  • Legal and social situation of migrants in Switzerland
  • Legal framework for integration in Switzerland

Interculturality

  • Culture and identity
  • Prejudice and discrimination
  • Cultural terms and models
  • Teaching and learning in an intercultural context
  • Promoting intercultural skills

Requirements

  • Competence and experience in educational work with adults (e.g. completed SVEB course leader certificate or fide module BAE). At the latest parallel to the module visit, your own learning events must be held in one of the official languages of Switzerland so that what you have learned can be tested in practice.
  • Linguistic and metalinguistic skills in German as well as oral and written expression skills at level C1 (CEFR) or higher.

Scope

The module includes 18 hours of training and at least 40 hours of self-study time. It is advisable to take a language course parallel to attending the module. This enables practical implementation of the learning content and supports the creation of proof of competence.

Module test

To receive the modular test, the following requirements must be met:

  • 80% attendance time on course days
  • Proof of competence assessed as fulfilled by the module lecturer (written reflection of a challenging and/or enriching course situation with migrants that they have experienced).

The module test is recognized by the fide office as a partial qualification for the qualification “Language course leader in the integration area” for five years from the date of issue.
