Fide Module “Foreign and second language didactics“ (FZD)

The training course is aimed at people who have skills and experience in educational work with adults and who work as DaF/DaZ language course leaders in the integration area or who aspire to this activity. The focus of this module is didactic-methodological approaches and specific techniques for action-oriented foreign and second language teaching, forms of internally differentiating and individualizing teaching, and activities that promote autonomous learning.

Target

You will learn how to promote foreign and second language acquisition, taking into account the needs of the target group, their resources and language usage needs.

Course content

  • Didactics/methodology of action- and participant-oriented foreign and second language promotion including task-based learning (=task-oriented foreign and second language teaching), use of language resources
  • Use of language learning resources
  • Most important aspects of foreign and second language learning for adults
  • Strategies and techniques to develop autonomous language learning
  • Language learner biography

Requirements

  • Competencies and experience in educational work with adults (e.g. completed SVEB course leader certificate or fide module BAE). At the latest parallel to the module visit, your own learning events must be held in one of the official languages of Switzerland so that what you have learned can be tested in practice.
  • Linguistic and metalinguistic skills in the local official language as well as oral and written expression skills at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) or higher.
  • Passive knowledge (understanding) of the local language (dialect).
  • Knowledge of the distinction between language levels according to the GeR.

Scope

The module contains 18 study lessons and at least 40 hours of self study. It is recommended to teach a language course at the same time. This will enable you to put course content into practice and gain support in demonstrating the appropriate level of competence.

Module confirmation

The following requirements need to be fulfilled in order to obtain the confirmation:
- 80% course day attendance
- Proof of competence assessed as fulfilled by the module lecturer (develop a learning unit (double lesson) for second language learners and justify it methodologically and didactically)

The module test is recognized by the fide office as a partial qualification for the “Language course leader in the integration area” qualification for five years from the date of issue.

Notes

This module is being carried out as a pilot course by the fide office as part of the revision of the fide modules. The purpose of the pilot course is to test the revised modules in practice. As part of the evaluation of the pilot, module participants are asked to fill out an additional questionnaire for the fide office at the end of the module (time required 15-30 minutes). The modules can also be observed by a specialist from the fide office in consultation with the module participants.

The course dates may be changed by the educational institution centre for an important reason.
