The CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) course is the original "TEFL" course. The CELTA provides initial training leading to the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. It is intended for those without previous experience who wish to enter the profession and for teachers with no previous training in this field. Many experienced teachers also take the course in order to gain a qualification that is internationally recognised. Success in the certificate has enabled many candidates to obtain their first teaching position: the course is highly regarded by employers as providing sound initial training and a strong basis from which to develop as a teacher of English.

CELTA is accepted throughout the world by organisations which employ English language teachers. The Cambridge CELTA is accredited in the UK by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) at Level 5 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and is a 30-credit qualification. Cambridge also works with international ELT organisations to ensure the acceptance of CELTA globally.

Ideally you should: 1. have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education, 2. be aged 20 or over, and 3. have a standard of English which will enable you to teach at a range of levels.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Cambridge English CELTA certificate, issued by Cambridge English. The qualification is valid for life.
